Biography

Tanuja Chandra earned a Bachelor's degree in English Literature in Mumbai before pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Film Direction and Writing in the USA. Upon returning to India, she directed the television series Mirch Masala and Zameen Aasmaan. She later co-wrote the screenplays and dialogues for Mahesh Bhatt's films Zakhm and Tamanna, both of which received National Awards, and for Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai.

Chandra began directing films independently in 1998 with Dushman, followed by Sangharsh, Sur - A Melody of Life, Zindaggi Rocks, and the English-language film Hope and A Little Sugar in 2008, among others. Many of her films have won awards in various categories, and her English film received recognition at international film festivals. In 2017, she released her most recent film, Qarib Qarib Singlle, and Penguin Random House published a collection of her short stories titled Bijnis Woman.
