Biography

Theodore DeReese Pendergrass was an American soul and R&B singer and songwriter, best known for his work with the group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Born in Kingstree, South Carolina, he spent much of his life in the Philadelphia area. Pendergrass gained fame as the lead singer of the Blue Notes before launching a successful solo career in 1976. Signed to the Philadelphia International label, he released five consecutive platinum albums, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in R&B and soul music.
