Biography
Thomas B. Ricketts was an English-born American stage and film actor and director who played a pioneering role in the film industry. He is best known for portraying Ebenezer Scrooge in the first American film adaptation of *A Christmas Carol* in 1908. Ricketts also directed one of the earliest motion pictures filmed in Hollywood and directed numerous silent films, including the first film released by Universal Pictures. Later in his career, he transitioned into becoming a prominent character actor.
