Biography

Virginia Paxton, a native of North Carolina, began her career as a dancer with her sister Frances in the act known as the Paxton Sisters. She was discovered by Darryl F. Zanuck while performing on Broadway and subsequently moved to Hollywood after signing with 20th Century Fox. After appearing in several films, she transferred to MGM, where she starred in *Idiots Delight* with Clark Gable and *The Kid From Texas*, in which she portrayed Annie Oakley. She later worked briefly for Columbia, co-starring with Jimmy Durante in *Start Cheering*. Her career reached its peak at Paramount, where she remained for five years, appearing in *Holiday Inn* with Bing Crosby, *Kiss the Boys Goodbye*, *Las Vegas Nights*, and *All the Women Have Secrets*. In the early 1960s, she transitioned to television, appearing in series such as *Annie Oakley*, *Wyatt Earp*, *Day in Court*, *North and South*, and *His Mistress* in 1984, which was her final appearance. She died on October 3, 1994, from complications related to emphysema and was survived by her husband and son.
