Biography

Vitaly Valeryevich Makarov is a Russian judoka who competed in the men's lightweight category. He achieved significant success in his career, including winning a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics and becoming the 2001 World Champion. Makarov also earned medals in various international tournaments, showcasing his skill and dedication to the sport. Earlier in his career, he was crowned the 1994 World Junior Champion, highlighting his early promise in judo. After retiring from competition, Makarov transitioned into coaching and has served on the Russian national judo team, continuing his involvement in the sport he excelled in as an athlete.
