Biography

Vladimir Sergeyevich Ivashov (1939–1995) was a Soviet and Russian actor. At the age of 19, he received an award at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival for his lead performance in Grigory Chukhrai’s film *Ballad of a Soldier*, which brought him immediate recognition. He graduated from the Moscow-based VGIK film school in 1963 and subsequently received numerous offers. His film credits include *Clouds Over Borsk* (1961), *The Seven Nurses* (1962) and *An Aunt With Violets* (1964). Ivashov also played the lead role of Pechorin in Stanislav Rostotski’s adaptations of Lermontov’s work. In 1976 he appeared in two films, *Diamonds for Proletarian Dictatorship* and *When September Comes*.
