Biography

Will Geer was an American actor, musician, and social activist who became known for his participation in labor organizing and communist movements during the 1930s and 1940s. He was active in both New York City and Southern California, where he formed a friendship with singer Woody Guthrie. In the 1940s, both men lived in New York City. Geer's political affiliations led to his blacklisting in Hollywood during the 1950s after he refused to name individuals associated with the Communist Party USA during congressional testimony.
