Biography

William J. Pomeroy was an American communist, poet, author, and ghostwriter who served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. During the war, he supported Philippine guerrilla forces by supplying them with materials and later organized a protest against the U.S. government's decision to classify the guerrillas as enemies. In 1948, he married Celia Mariano, a Filipina and member of the Hukbalahap, a peasant-based movement in the Philippines. Pomeroy's life and work reflect his deep engagement with political and social issues, both during and after the war.
