Biography

Zendaya, whose name means "to give thanks" in the Shona language, is an American actress and singer born in Oakland, California. She began her career as a child model for brands such as Macy's, Mervyns, and Old Navy, and also worked as a backup dancer before gaining recognition for her role as Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel sitcom *Shake It Up* (2010), which also starred Bella Thorne, Kenton Duty, and Roshon Fegan. Zendaya competed on the sixteenth season of the reality series *Dancing with the Stars*. She later produced and starred as K.C. Cooper in the Disney Channel sitcom *K.C. Undercover* (2015). She made her film breakthrough in 2017, portraying Michelle "MJ" Jones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film *Spider-Man: Homecoming* and Anne Wheeler in the musical drama *The Greatest Showman*, which also featured Tom Holland, Hugh Jackman, and Zac Efron. In addition to acting, singing, and dancing, Zendaya serves as an ambassador for Convoy of Hope. She has written a book, launched her own clothing line (Daya by Zendaya), and is recognized as a role model for young girls worldwide.
