Shot entirely in color, *Four Stars* was projected in its full length of nearly 25 hours (accounting for the overlap of its 35-minute reels) only once, at the Film-Makers' Cinematheque in New York City. The film features dense, tiring, and beautiful imagery, but is ultimately difficult to interpret. Unlike his earlier and more famous 1966 film *Chelsea Girls*, Warhol directed that two reels be shown simultaneously on top of each other on a single screen, rather than side-by-side. The title is a play on the rating system used by critics to evaluate films, with "four stars" representing the highest rating.
