From Ancient Greece to the frozen North, rulers have consistently relied on elite troops—highly trained men skilled in a wide range of weaponry, tasked with tracking down and eliminating their leader’s enemies. One major challenge these teams faced was getting close enough to carry out their missions. In the ancient world, there were no sniper rifles, and as a result, even the most capable Japanese Ninjas were sometimes captured and tortured. This series presents some of antiquity’s most dramatic stories through a combination of dramatic reconstructions, documentary footage, and expert commentary. Each episode explores the complex nature of the elite units responsible for assassination missions, detailing how they operated. It also covers the requirements for achieving elite status, the uniforms they were allowed to wear, and the weapons they were issued after completing their first mission.
