The imperial court is currently recruiting traversals, assigning them roles based on their abilities in an effort to rebuild civilization after its collapse and establish a new world order. Zuo Yunqi is an ordinary young man who has infiltrated the court in disguise as a spy in order to save his father. However, he is discovered by a person specifically hired to detect such infiltrators, and the two become engaged in a battle of wits. When they work together to thwart a dangerous conspiracy, they uncover a secret alliance among the traversals seeking to overthrow the current rulers and establish a society based on peaceful coexistence.
