Jin Jung is assigned a unique murder case that quickly proves to be unlike any he has encountered before. Despite his efforts, mounting public backlash and pressure from superiors force him to halt the case abruptly.

Jin Jung is transferred to the Civil Affairs Division, a bureaucratic backwater where he encounters Park Jae-kyung, a prosecutor with a similarly troubled past. As he handles civil complaints, he uncovers a clue related to the Seocho-dong murder case and teams up with Shin Ah-ra to investigate the person responsible.

Jin Jung intensifies his investigation into Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee's involvement in a murder case, publicly revealing evidence during Lee's inauguration to block his promotion and implicate him as the prime suspect. Determined but needing stronger proof, Jin Jung pursues the truth through his own relentless methods.

Jin Jung is deeply shaken by the death of Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Jang-won and becomes convinced it was murder, despite official conclusions suggesting suicide. He abandons his responsibilities to investigate independently, seeking conclusive evidence to challenge the official narrative.

Kim Tae-ho assumes the role of head district prosecutor and immediately arrests Prosecutor Jin for the murder of Deputy Chief Lee. When Jin is released and goes on the run, he begins his own search for the truth to clear his name.

Ah-ra finds Jin Jung injured and takes him to Jae-kyung's home for assistance. After recovering without hospitalization, Jin Jung and his team investigate Prosecutor Oh for clues, while Ah-ra uncovers a troubling entry in a client list.

Jin Jung gains the advantage over District Head Prosecutor Kim Tae-ho and begins gathering evidence against the medical examiner who falsified an autopsy report. Aware of Jin Jung's strategy, District Head Kim instructs Prosecutor Oh to intervene and prevent his plan from succeeding.

Jin Jung successfully prosecutes District Head Prosecutor Kim Tae-ho, but remains unaware of the mastermind behind the larger conspiracy. Suspecting Chief Secretary Tae Hyung-wook of killing Deputy Chief Lee, he investigates him, while Prosecutor Oh seeks assistance from Seo Hyun-kyu.

Jin Jung arrests Tae Hyung-wook, who remains silent despite the arrest. Prosecutor Oh works with Seo Hyun-kyu in an attempt to prevent her from speaking, acting as her lawyer. Jin Jung begins to suspect that recent events are connected to the murder of Park Ye-young and turns her attention to Kim Hyo-jun, the deliveryman who confessed to the crime.

Jin Jung gains new insight into the past through Jae-kyung, who reveals a connection between Seo Hyun-kyu and his father's death. Despite Jae-kyung's advice to drop the matter, Jin Jung becomes determined to see justice done. He also tries to unlock files on an MP3 player that once belonged to his father.
