In a near-future world, a mysterious phenomenon begins to unfold globally, marked by powerful flashes of light in the ocean and the sudden reappearance of people from the past. These individuals, termed "beforeigners," originate from three distinct time periods: the Stone Age, the Viking era, and the late 19th century. Two years later, Alfhildr, a beforeigner from the Viking Age, is forced to team up with Lars Haaland, a disillusioned police officer, to investigate the murder of another beforeigner. As they work together, they begin to uncover a larger conspiracy behind the origins of the mysterious mass arrivals.
