Belle and Sebastian
Belle and Sebastian is an anime adaptation of the French novel series Belle et Sébastien by Cécile Aubry. It aired on the Japanese network NHK from April 7, 1981, to June 22, 1982, comprising 52 episodes. The series was a co-production of MK Company, Visual 80 Productions, and Toho Company, Ltd. Toshiyuki Kashiwakura served as head writer, and character designs were created by Shuichi Seki. The show was broadcast in France and Japan in 1981, with American cable network Nickelodeon airing it in 1984. In the United Kingdom, it was broadcast on Children's BBC in 1989 and 1990. The series employed many staff members from Nippon Animation's World Masterpiece Theater franchise, giving it a visual and stylistic resemblance to WMT productions, although Nippon Animation itself was not involved in the series. Belle and Sebastian has been broadcast in numerous countries outside Japan and has been dubbed and subtitled in English and several other languages.
