Ai Changan and Shen Xia are among the Huaqi employees whose experiences reflect those of other college students who joined the company as interns. Their lives are closely tied to the Chinese automobile industry, which forms the foundation of their livelihoods. In the mid-1980s, a group of college graduates arrived at an automobile factory in the northwest to begin their internships. Shen Xia, who had initially planned to study abroad, witnessed the development of the 7-ton truck and chose to remain. Alongside Ai Changan, a young technician at the factory, they embarked on a path aimed at revitalizing the industry. However, the competitive market presents numerous challenges for the new generation of committed professionals. The backbone of Huaqi is nearly exhausted by its rivals.
