On New Year’s Eve 2019, a fire in an East Hollywood apartment building claims several lives, including a young child, and is later ruled arson. Detective Harry Bosch investigates the scene, but his usual partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, is nowhere to be found.

Bosch and Edgar investigate an arson case by visiting the Magic Castle. Meanwhile, Lt. Billets causes tension within the department, and Chandler's new client, Vincent Franzen, reveals a significant piece of information after spending a night in custody.

Bosch and Edgar pursue a key suspect known as La Mayorista, but after Edgar's mistake, Bosch brings in Vega for support. Meanwhile, Chandler and Maddie secure a statement from Franzen for the SEC before moving him to a safehouse. Irving and Lopez collaborate on an arson investigation, though both have hidden motives.
