Bread

Bread is a British television sitcom written by Carla Lane, produced by the BBC, and broadcast on BBC1 from 1 May 1986 to 3 November 1991. The series centers on the devoutly Catholic and extended Boswell family of Liverpool, living in the district of Dingle, and led by matriarch Nellie as they navigate life's challenges in Thatcher's Britain without visible means of support. The opening of each episode features a shot of Elswick Street. A family named Boswell also appeared in Lane's earlier sitcom The Liver Birds, and Lane acknowledged in interviews that the two families were likely connected. Nellie's absent and unreliable husband, Freddie, left her for a woman named 'Lilo Lill'. Nellie's children—Joey, Jack, Adrian, Aveline, and Billy—continued to reside in the family home on Kelsall Street and contributed to a central family fund, primarily through benefit fraud and the sale of stolen goods.
