Nakajima Atsushi, having been expelled from his orphanage, struggles to survive on the streets of Yokohama as he faces hunger and hardship. His life takes an unexpected turn when he saves a stranger from drowning, leading to a new opportunity.

Nakajima, who has recently joined the Armed Detective Agency but doubts his own usefulness, is about to resign when a bomber seizes control of the agency and takes one of its members hostage.

Atsushi, having passed the Agency's entrance exam, becomes a full member and is immediately assigned to his first case alongside Tanizaki and Naomi. While the case appears straightforward, it quickly becomes clear that there are deeper complexities at play.

Grateful for being rescued from the Port Mafia by Dazai, Atsushi begins to believe that his presence endangers the Special Countermeasures Unit. To protect the Agency from further threats, he resolves to leave and reaches out to the Port Mafia directly.

Atsushi, having successfully dealt with the Port Mafia's Black Lizards, is assigned to assist Rampo on an investigation. Though doubtful of Rampo's competence, Atsushi is soon impressed by the eccentric detective's unexpected skills.

The Agency looks into a string of missing persons cases in Yokohama, working with hacker Taguchi Rokuzou, who uncovers only victim photos and references to a cryptic figure known as the Azure Messenger. Their investigation leads them to an abandoned hospital in search of answers.

After a bomb threat from the Azure Messenger puts hundreds of lives at risk, the Armed Detective Agency works urgently to avert disaster and protect their reputation. Meanwhile, Dazai appears preoccupied with Sasaki Nobuko, the only survivor from their earlier raid on an abandoned hospital.

Oda Sakunosuke, Dazai Osamu, and Sakaguchi Ango gather at their regular bar on a foggy evening, but Ango disappears mysteriously that night. Oda receives a direct command from the Port Mafia boss to locate him, setting off a tense search.

Odasaku visits a Western-style restaurant not only for its curry but also to have the owner care for a group of orphaned children who lost their parents in the war. While tracking down Ango and reflecting on their first meeting, Dazai successfully captures a Mimic soldier in a trap, only to find the captive dead and his subordinate, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke, waiting for him instead.

The Port Mafia's ruling council orders the destruction of Mimic, leading to a confrontation where Odasaku meets Gide, the enigmatic leader of Mimic, who delivers a mysterious prophecy. As night falls, Dazai, Odasaku, and Ango find themselves at a familiar bar.
