*Caillou* is a Canadian children's television series with an educational focus, based on the books written by Christine L'Heureux and illustrated by Hélène Desputeaux. In the first season of the animated version, many episodes began with a grandmother introducing the story to her grandchildren before reading it from the book. Since 1997, the grandmother has remained a narrator character, though she is no longer seen on screen. The show first aired in Canada on Teletoon in 1998, and made its U.S. debut in English on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) public television on September 4, 2000. A fifth season was released in 2013, and the series continues to air on PBS Kids and PBS Sprout.
