Tomoya Okazaki is a third-year high school student who feels resentful toward his life. His mother died in a car accident when he was young, leading his father to become dependent on alcohol and cigarettes. This causes frequent arguments between them, culminating in a fight in which Tomoya injures his shoulder. After this incident, Tomoya grows distant from his father and gradually becomes a delinquent. One day, while walking to school, he meets a girl named Nagisa Furukawa, who is a year older but repeating her grade due to illness. As a result, she is often alone since most of her friends have moved on. The two begin spending time together, and over time, Tomoya's life begins to change in a new direction.
