Dear Mayang Street

Set during a period of reform in the 1980s, the story follows the lives and relationships of six families living on Mayang Street in Guangzhou. It centers on Ou Xiao Jian, a rebellious youth who is in a relationship with Ma Xiao Xiao, a local schoolgirl. Yi Dong Dong, an 18-year-old who recently moved back to his hometown with his family, develops a crush on Ma Xiao Xiao upon meeting her. Though he is deeply attracted to her, he learns that she is interested in his friend Ou Xiao Jian and chooses to keep his feelings hidden, instead offering her quiet support from a distance. Concerned for Ou Xiao Jian, who spends much of his time with delinquents, Ma Xiao Xiao becomes increasingly troubled by their relationship. Eventually, overwhelmed by the strain, she and Ou Xiao Jian separate. In the years that follow, Ma Xiao Xiao becomes a lawyer, while Yi Dong Dong successfully passes the local civil service exams. Ou Xiao Jian, meanwhile, experiences a series of personal challenges and changes.
