Light Yagami is a typical university student who one day receives a "Death Note," an object that dramatically alters the course of his life. The Death Note awakens his distorted sense of justice and intellectual brilliance, leading him to become the murderer known as Kira, who targets and punishes criminals. L, a renowned private detective, emerges as a key figure in the case. He identifies Kira as a dangerous criminal and resolves to capture him. Meanwhile, N, who possesses an attractive appearance but a perilous presence, also enters the scene.

Encouraged by Ryuk, Light begins using the notebook to eliminate criminals, aiming to build a perfect world.
