Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, and T.K. discover seven Digivices at camp and are transported to a mysterious Digital World, where they encounter Digimon—digital creatures who become their partners in this new realm.

The group discovers a beach lined with old phone booths, but they find that none of the phones are operational.

The children flee from a battle with a Monochromon and take shelter for the night in a trolley car on a secluded island, only to be confronted by a Seadramon the following day.

The children stop at a Yokomon village to rest for the night, but their peaceful stay is interrupted when a Meramon suddenly appears and attacks.

The children discover a factory and encounter an Andromon in distress.

While fleeing from Numemon in the sewers near the factory, the group is separated, and Mimi finds herself stranded in a whimsical area known as Toy Town.

Tai and Matt debate the decision to climb Infinity Mountain, while Joe and Gomamon choose to attempt the climb independently. During their ascent, they encounter a dangerous creature known as a Unimon.

The children encounter Devimon, the authoritarian ruler of File Island, who is revealed to be in command of the Black Gears.

Tai and Agumon arrive on a frozen island and must battle a powerful Digimon named Frigimon in order to proceed.

Mimi and Palmon evade Sukamon and Chuumon and travel to the island where Izzy and Tentomon arrived, only to become lost in a labyrinth and confronted by Centarumon.

Joe and Gomamon, after a confrontation with Ogremon at sea, arrive on an island where they meet Sora and Biyomon, only to be taken captive by a group of ghost-like Digimon called Bakemon who plan to consume them.

T.K. and Patamon reach Primary Village, the origin place of all Digimon, where they encounter a group of crying baby Digimon. They are challenged by the village's caretaker, Elecmon, but resolve the situation through a friendly game of tug-of-war.

T.K. is ambushed in Primary Village by Leomon and Ogremon, but is rescued by Tai, Matt, Izzy, Mimi, and their Digimon, who use their Digivices to free Leomon from the influence of the Black Gears. Leomon then shares the legend of the "DigiDestined," a group of children from another world destined to protect the Digital World from evil.

Gennai instructs the group to journey to Server to confront a new threat and reveals that Crests can enable Digimon to digivolve further. The team builds a raft to leave File Island and is transported by Whamon to the location of the hidden Crests.

The children arrive at a Koromon village and encounter Etemon, who uses his Dark Network to block Digimon from digivolving. He captures the group in a cave, where they discover Tai's Crest of Courage.

The group finds themselves trapped in a coliseum by Etemon while traveling through the desert.

The group becomes lost in the desert and is captured by Kokatorimon, who takes them aboard his flying ship. He petrifies the boys' Digimon partners, prompting Biyomon and Palmon to Digivolve and battle him. After defeating Kokatorimon, his ship crashes into a massive cactus, where Mimi discovers the Crest of Sincerity.

After an attack leaves them vulnerable, Tai and Agumon struggle with the decision to Digivolve into SkullGreymon. The DigiDestined are taken in by Piximon, who offers to train them at his facility, while Tai and Agumon are confined to a cave as the rest of the group performs labor.

Izzy receives a message from Datamon offering Sora's Crest in exchange for a rescue mission inside Etemon's pyramid, and T.K. discovers the Crest of Hope. Tai, Sora, Izzy, and Joe enter the pyramid, with Tai insisting the Digital World is just a virtual simulation.

Tai and Izzy enter a pyramid to rescue Sora, who is being targeted by Datamon for a cloning scheme to harness her Crest and Biyomon for revenge against Etemon. During the battle, Datamon activates the Dark Network, which fuses with Etemon and enhances his power, but Tai's Crest enables Greymon to Digivolve into MetalGreymon. After Etemon is defeated, he is swallowed by a portal, and Tai and Koromon are transported to Tokyo.

Tai and Koromon return home to find that little time has passed in the Real World and meet Tai's younger sister, Kari. Tai receives a warning from Izzy not to return to the Digital World and learns that Digimon are appearing in the Real World. Determined to help, Tai and Koromon prepare to go back, with Koromon Digivolving to Agumon to fight an Ogremon before a portal opens, transporting them back to the Digital World.

Tai and Agumon return to the Digital World, where Tokomon tells them that the others have been searching for them for weeks. DemiDevimon sows distrust between T.K. and Tokomon while planning to harm T.K. with amnesic mushrooms. Agumon uncovers DemiDevimon's plan, and Tokomon Digivolves into Patamon to fend him off.

Matt, Gabumon, Joe, and Gomamon find themselves working at a diner owned by the greedy Digitamamon in order to settle a debt for a meal they couldn't afford.

Izzy is captured by Vademon and imprisoned in a pocket dimension where his sense of curiosity is stripped away. DemiDevimon tries to purchase Izzy's Crest, leading to a confrontation in which Izzy regains both his Crest and his curiosity.

Joe and Tai discover Mimi being pampered in a palace. Sora persuades Mimi to sing, inadvertently awakening ShogunGekomom, which turns hostile and attacks the group.

The DigiDestined discover that Sora has been secretly aiding them, but she is influenced by DemiDevimon, who convinces her that her Crest is powerless, playing on her insecurities related to her mother.

Gennai informs the DigiDestined that an eighth member exists and that Myotismon plans to bring an army of evil Digimon into the Real World to capture the child. They attempt to stop him by infiltrating his castle, but their mission fails when Gatomon diverts their attention with Devidramon.

The DigiDestined visit Gennai to learn more about the Digital World, then return to Myotismon's castle to confront Dokugumon and open a gateway for escape. Their battle leads to the castle's collapse, but they succeed in opening the gate and fleeing.

The DigiDestined return to camp, realizing they were away for only a short time. They travel to Highton View Terrace in an effort to locate the eighth child.

The DigiDestined face difficulties returning to Odaiba after missing their train and spending their money on food. They eventually receive help from Sora's cousin Duane, though an accident occurs when he unintentionally pushes Izzy off a bridge. Ikkakumon arrives to defeat Gesomon and safely transports the group back home.

The DigiDestined return home, but the eighth child's Digivice is taken by Tai's cat, triggering a signal that summons DemiDevimon, Raremon, and Izzy. Kabuterimon defeats Raremon, while Izzy and Tentomon struggle to find any information about the mysterious events.

The DigiDestined continue their quest to find the eighth child, while Gatomon encounters Kari and begins to suspect she might be the one they're looking for.

T.K. and Patamon argue on their way home, and after Patamon flies off, Matt and T.K. pursue him into Shibuya, where they encounter Pumpkinmon and Gotsumon, who are uncooperative and prefer to have fun. Their refusal to fight leads to punishment by Myotismon, but WereGarurumon and Angemon intervene and drive him away.

Wizardmon discovers Kari's Digivice and connects her with Gatomon, revealing Kari to be one of the DigiDestined and Gatomon her Digimon partner.

A thick fog descends over Odaiba as Myotismon uses it to hide evil Digimon that begin abducting civilians. Bakemon and Phantomon lead the attacks, capturing people from their homes and taking them to an unknown location.

Myotismon manipulates Gatomon in an attempt to uncover the identity of the eighth Digidestined. To protect Matt and Sora, Kari willingly surrenders herself to Phantomon.

The DigiDestined gather at Fuji TV Station to confront Myotismon and Phantomon. Myotismon attacks Kari and Gatomon, prompting Wizardmon to sacrifice himself to save them, which leads Kari to help Gatomon Digivolve into Angewomon. Together, they defeat Myotismon, but a lingering fog remains over Odaiba.

Myotismon transforms into a more powerful form, VenomMyotismon, by consuming his Digimon army and moves toward the human world. Izzy, remembering a prophecy from Gennai, realizes that Angemon and Angewomon must attack Tai and Matt to trigger a miracle. Through this sacrifice, Agumon and Gabumon are able to Warp Digivolve into WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon.

WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, with assistance from the team and their Digivices, successfully defeat VenomMyotismon. Soon after, they are called back to the Digital World, which faces a new threat.

Returning to the Digital World, the DigiDestined learn from Chuumon that the Dark Masters have seized control during their absence. In a battle against the powerful Dark Masters, the DigiDestined's partners are overwhelmed, leading Chuumon to sacrifice himself to save Mimi. Just as the situation worsens, Pixiemon arrives and makes the ultimate sacrifice to help the group escape.

The children escape from Scorpiomon, a minion of MetalSeadramon, but their attempt to flee by sea is quickly thwarted when they encounter MetalSeadramon himself.

As the children face near defeat at the hands of MetalSeadramon, Whamon arrives to save them, leading them to escape underwater. But MetalSeadramon pursues them, initiating an intense battle.

Whamon sacrifices himself to help WarGreymon defeat MetalSeadramon. The DigiDestined then travel to Puppetmon's forest, where he divides the group, leading Matt to grow overprotective of T.K. Puppetmon forces T.K. into a deadly game of hide-and-seek, but T.K. outsmarts him by sabotaging his control room, allowing the others to regroup and defeat Kiwimon, leaving Matt feeling discouraged that T.K. escaped without his help.

Puppetmon sends Garbagemon to attack the DigiDestined, but Matt withdraws and encounters Cherrymon, who manipulates him into believing Tai is the cause of his insecurities. Returning to the group, Matt challenges Tai to a fight, while Cherrymon is killed by Puppetmon after cautioning him about the DigiDestined's hidden strength.

Tensions escalate when Matt and Tai argue with their Digimon, leading to a physical confrontation. Kari is mysteriously possessed by an entity that reveals the reason behind the DigiDestined's selection. As Matt and Mimi leave the group—Matt out of uncertainty and Mimi out of hurt—the remaining DigiDestined press on in their mission against the Dark Masters.

Joe and Mimi encounter and aid an injured Ogremon, while Etemon transforms into MetalEtemon to seek revenge. At the same time, Tai and his team, assisted by two of Puppetmon's playmates, enter his mansion and use his own cannon against him.

SaberLemon rescues Joe and Mimi, but they are soon confronted again by MetalEtemon, whom they defeat with combined efforts, though SaberLemon sacrifices his life to protect Mimi. Meanwhile, Puppetmon is overcome by the DigiDestined and ultimately destroyed by Matt and MetalGarurumon. Inspired by the losses and victories, Mimi renews her determination to fight, and she and Joe set out to find more allies as Tai and his team prepare to battle the remaining Dark Masters.

Kari becomes seriously ill, causing Tai to panic as he tries desperately to assist her. Meanwhile, Machinedramon attacks a mechanical city he has taken over, leading to the group being split apart.

The DigiDestined are separated in the sewers and must regroup while fending off enemies.

Joe leaves to search for Matt, while Tai and the others encounter LadyDevimon, a follower of Piedmon. Sora and T.K. are tasked with finding the remaining missing DigiDestined, and Angewomon and MegaKabuterimon battle and defeat LadyDevimon. Shortly after, Piedmon appears to confront the group.

Piedmon engages WarGreymon in battle, but the Digimon is unable to defeat him alone. Meanwhile, Matt and Sora each confront their inner struggles in dark caves, leading to personal growth and reconciliation with Tai. With most of the DigiDestined reunited, WarGreymon is joined by MetalGarurumon in preparation for a final confrontation with Piedmon.

Piedmon transforms the DigiDestined and their Digimon into keychain dolls, leaving only T.K. and Kari. T.K. draws strength by imagining Matt's guidance, activates his Crest, and Angemon Digivolves into MagnaAngemon to rescue the others. With Mimi rejoining the group, they defeat Piedmon, but their victory is short-lived as Gennai sends an email revealing a greater threat behind the Digital World's destruction.

Despite the defeat of the Dark Masters, the Digital World continues to crumble, forcing the children and their Digimon to confront the ultimate source of the destruction: Apocalymon.

With Apocalymon defeated, the DigiDestined plan to enjoy the remainder of their summer in the Digital World, but Gennai warns them they must leave soon or risk being trapped there permanently.

The Digimon Emperor launches an attack on the Digital World, preventing Digimon from Digivolving. Kari Kamiya, T.K. Takaishi, and Davis Motomiya travel to the Digital World to rescue Tai Kamiya, and Davis discovers the Digi-egg of Courage, which hatches into Veemon. Veemon is able to Armor Digivolve into Flamedramon, helping the group defeat an enslaved Monochromon.

Kimeramon and Magnamon engage in battle as Ken's base is destroyed. Wormmon sacrifices his energy to empower Magnamon, helping him overcome Kimeramon.

The DigiDestined face a surprise attack by Tyrannomon, but T.K. and Kari discover the Digi-eggs of Hope and Light, enabling Patamon and Gatomon to Armor Digivolve into Pegasusmon and Nefertimon. The powerful Digimon allies help rescue their friends and ultimately liberate Tyrannomon.

Ken reflects on his brother Sam, his Digivice, a mysterious email he received, and his initial journey into the Digital World, even as he struggles with temporary amnesia in the real world.

Davis, Kari, and T.K. discover their Digimon are unable to Digivolve, while Cody is attacked by Thundermon, resulting in Armadillomon unexpectedly evolving into Ankylomon.

Mimi and the new DigiDestined enjoy a picnic in the Digital World, but when Mimi accidentally falls into a hole, she and Yolei become separated from the group.

The DigiDestined arrive as Ken's base is on the verge of exploding, and they are attacked by Okuwamon, a Digimon composed of control spires. Ken arrives in time, and Davis reflects on the importance of friendship.

Paildramon and Okuwamon engage in an ongoing battle. Ken attempts to use his Crest of Kindness by inserting it into a slot in the base, but it has no effect.

The DigiDestined reach the massive Giga House, where a mysterious woman is already present. As they approach, they are ambushed by various insect-themed Digimon.

Yolei uses her knowledge from working with Matt's band to develop a countermeasure against the mysterious woman's music, allowing her to transform into the Digimon Arukenimon and engage in battle.

Cody's growing distrust of Ken leads to a rift in the group, prompting Ken to depart. Meanwhile, Mummymon and Arukenimon merge a hundred control spires to form the powerful Digimon BlackWarGreymon.

Yolei, Kari, Ken, and their Digimon venture into the Dark Ocean in search of Gatomon's missing tail ring.

During a school trip, Yolei witnesses BlackWarGreymon and other Digimon in the real world after the Mega-level Digimon destroys a second Destiny Stone.

After BlackWarGreymon destroys the third stone, a mysterious Digimon appears briefly, leading BlackWarGreymon to believe it is a strong rival worthy of his attention.

Cody visits Matt out of concern for T.K., and Matt reveals the lasting emotional impact T.K. has from his past battle with Devimon. Meanwhile, BlackWarGreymon shatters one of the last two Destiny Stones.

The original and new generations of DigiDestined come together to commemorate the anniversary of their first journey to the Digital World.

Davis attempts to use the D3s to move the last Destiny Stone, but instead summons Azulongmon while the DNA Digivolved Digimon battle BlackWarGreymon.

The new DigiDestined, excluding Davis, travel to Ken's base to confront him, believing he holds the key to their next mission.

The DigiDestined are defeated by Kimeramon, but Wormmon guides Davis and Veemon to the base's power source: a golden Digi-egg. Davis uses it to trigger Veemon's golden armor digivolution into Magnamon.

Wormmon gives his life energy to help Magnamon defeat Kimeramon, leading to his death and forcing Ken to confront his past and the reality of the Digital World. The Digi-egg of Miracles becomes the Crest of Kindness for Ken, and with the Digimon Emperor defeated, the DigiDestined return home.

Returning to the Digital World after summer, the DigiDestined assist with rebuilding efforts. Davis, trying to impress Kari, encourages Veemon to Digivolve on his own like Patamon, which leads to an encounter with an angry Tortomon. Veemon eventually Digivolves to ExVeemon to defend them.

Ken has a dream in which he reflects on his initial entry into the Digital World and his growing resentment toward his deceased older brother, Sam. Motivated by a promise to redeem himself, he returns to the Digital World and is reunited with Wormmon in its earlier form, Leafmon, in Primary Village.

Ken discovers a mysterious woman in his room who is aware of his past, while Davis, Kari, and T.K. notice their Digimon are unable to Digivolve naturally even after the Control Spires are deactivated. Cody is attacked by Thundermon, prompting Armadillomon to evolve into Ankylomon, and Ken and Stingmon ultimately defeat Thundermon, raising suspicions among the DigiDestined about Ken's intentions.

Mimi and SnowBotamon are attacked when a Golemon attempts to destroy a dam, and with the DigiDestined unable to stop him, they turn to Ken for assistance. Initially skeptical, Yolei and the others discover that Golemon was created by a woman using Control Spires. Gaining trust in Ken, Yolei helps Hawkmon Digivolve into Aquilamon, who defeats Golemon.

As the Digimon Emperor's base faces imminent explosion, the DigiDestined attempt to manage the situation, only to encounter a mysterious woman constructing Okuwamon using ten Control Spires. Ken arrives to assist but insists on handling the crisis alone as penance, prompting Davis to stand his ground. Davis' assertion of loyalty leads to ExVeemon and Stingmon DNA Digivolving into Paildramon.

Paildramon confronts Okuwamon as the DigiDestined infiltrate Ken's base, but Ken's attempt to use the Crest of Kindness fails to stop the battle. After Paildramon defeats Okuwamon, he obliterates the base. The following day, the group meets with Izzy, who reveals the concept of DNA Digivolution and the original DigiDestined's past sacrifices to safeguard the Digital World.

The DigiDestined travel to Giga House in search of a mysterious woman, discovering that her flute's melody has ensnared the local insect Digimon, including powerful creatures like Stingmon and Digmon.

Yolei disrupts the hypnotic effects of a mysterious woman's flute, revealing her to be the Digimon Arukenimon. After a brief battle, Arukenimon is defeated but is subsequently rescued and escapes with the help of Mummymon.

Davis and Yolei try to help Cody and Ken get along better, but their efforts don't go as planned. Arukenimon uses 100 Control Spires to create the powerful Digimon BlackWarGreymon, who defeats the DigiDestined's team. However, BlackWarGreymon soon turns on Arukenimon and Mummymon and abandons them.

Yolei, Kari, Ken, and their Digimon venture into the Dark Ocean in search of Gatomon's missing tail ring, but they are confronted by Arukenimon's Blossomon. Yolei helps calm a panicked Kari and vows to support her, while Gatomon and Aquilamon combine into Silphymon to defeat Blossomon and rescue the group, though the tail ring remains missing.

BlackWarGreymon, having gained self-awareness, encounters Agumon and questions his own purpose. Meanwhile, Arukenimon, with the help of Mummymon, creates Knightmon to attack one of the Digital World's Destiny Stones. Despite the DigiDestined's efforts to intervene, the damaged stone draws BlackGreymon, who ultimately destroys it.

While on a school trip to Kyoto, Yolei stumbles upon BlackWarGreymon and other Digimon in the Real World after the second Destiny Stone is destroyed. Ken temporarily returns to deliver her Poromon, and their ensuing battle draws the attention of Sora's father and Joe's brother. Musyamon later appears, but Yolei and Hawkmon defeat him and send him back to the Digital World.

BlackWarGreymon, believing himself fated to battle the Digimon that emerge from destroyed Destiny Stones, continues his assault despite the DigiDestined's warnings that such actions could disrupt the balance between worlds. As T.K. grows frustrated, even MagnaAngemon's intervention fails to stop BlackWarGreymon from destroying another Destiny Stone.

Cody, concerned about T.K.'s lingering emotional wounds from the battle with Devimon, seeks advice from Matt. Deciding to act, Cody confronts BlackWarGreymon directly, but the digimon's primal instincts lead him to destroy the fifth Destiny Stone.

The DigiDestined encounter Arukenimon and Mummymon at Digitamamon's Chinese restaurant, where they learn the location of the final Destiny Stone. When BlackWarGreymon arrives, Angemon and Ankylomon combine through DNA Digivolution into Shakkoumon to join the battle.

While the Digimon battle BlackWarGreymon, the DigiDestined attempt to use their D-3s to interact with the Destiny Stone, guided by Davis. Their actions summon Azulongmon, who defeats BlackWarGreymon and reveals knowledge about Control Spires and Armor Digivolution, hinting that Arukenimon may not be the real threat.

On Christmas Eve, the younger DigiDestined celebrate at Ken's apartment while the older ones attend a concert by Matt. The festivities are disrupted when Digimon appear in the Real World, leading to a battle that forces them to send the creatures back to the Digital World. The next day, the DigiDestined discover that Control Spires and Digimon are emerging across the globe.

During a battle between Davis and Ken against Triceramon in Tamachi, the DigiDestined receive a Digicore from Gennai, enabling their partner Digimons to reach the ultimate level and allowing Paildramon to evolve into Imperialdramon. They are then directed to join Gennai's assistants and international DigiDestined to return wild Digimon to the Digital World.

Davis teams up with Mimi and the American DigiDestined, while Kari and Izzy seek assistance from the Poi Brothers in Hong Kong.

Cody and Joe team up with Derek in Australia to battle marine-based Digimon, while in Paris, T.K. and Tai enlist the aid of T.K.'s grandfather to rescue a French DigiDestined who has been taken hostage by the Mamemon brothers at Versailles.

Ken and Matt assist a Mexican DigiDestined, while Sora and Yolei support others in Russia and Siberia. Yolei and Sora succeed in their mission but are later rescued from an attack by Imperialdramon. Meanwhile, Arukenimon and Mummymon begin abducting children during the DigiDestined's journey home for Christmas.

The Daemon Corps launch an attack in Japan, focusing on Ken, as SkullSatamon overpowers Paildramon. The older DigiDestined Digimon sacrifice their power to enable Imperialdramon's transformation into Fighter Mode to defeat SkullSatamon. Daemon demands the DigiDestined hand over Ken, who surrenders himself to Arukenimon after she reveals children abducted with Mummymon.

Ken encounters Yukio Oikawa, who is aware of his history and seeks to extract data from the Dark Spore in his neck to save kidnapped children. Meanwhile, the other DigiDestined battle LadyDevimon and MarineDevimon to keep up with him. Yolei and Cody witness their Digimon partners attacking and killing other Digimon.

After achieving his objective, Oikawa delivers Ken to Daemon, who proves unstoppable even as Davis and the DigiDestined try to stop him. Faced with the threat of Daemon crossing into the Real World repeatedly, Ken makes a desperate move to send him to the Dark Ocean. Oikawa allows the captured children to return home before fleeing with his accomplices.

The DigiDestined observe the children while BlackWarGreymon confronts Oikawa, who reveals the truth behind his creation and attempts to attack him. WarGreymon and Imperialdramon intervene, leading to an intense battle in which they attempt to convince BlackWarGreymon to join them.

A child's Dark Spore develops into a Dark Flower, which Oikawa harvests despite attempts by the DigiDestined to intervene. After Cody's grandfather fails to reason with him, BlackWarGreymon gives his life to protect Cody and, recognizing Oikawa is under possession, uses his final strength to seal the portal to the Digital World at Highton View Terrace.

Oikawa tries to transport the children to the Digital World, but due to BlackWarGreymon's seal on the Highton View Terrace portal, they arrive in the Dream World instead. Oikawa's influence takes the form of Myotismon, who later Digivolves into MaloMyotismon using Dark Spores and defeats Arukenimon and Mummymon. The DigiDestined are shaken by the events, except for Davis and ExVeemon, who remain resolute.

MaloMyotismon lures the DigiDestined with visions of their deepest desires, but Davis resists by focusing on helping his Digimon grow stronger. Inspired by him, the others overcome the illusions, triggering a wave of Digivolutions. Their combined power forces MaloMyotismon into the Digital World, where he faces the strongest Digimon as his own strength begins to increase.

With help from DigiDestined around the world and the kidnapped children, the DigiDestined use the power of their dreams to weaken MaloMyotismon, who is ultimately destroyed by Imperialdramon, ending his reign of terror. Oikawa sacrifices himself by becoming data to restore the Digital World through the power of the Dream World. Twenty-five years later, everyone in the Real World has a Digimon partner, and the children of the original DigiDestined take on the responsibility of protecting both worlds.
