*Fear* is an American paranormal reality television series that aired from 2000 to 2002 on MTV. The show features a group of five or more contestants who are left at an allegedly haunted location for two nights, during which they complete a series of dares aimed at exploring and determining whether the site is truly haunted. The series was created by Martin Kunert and Eric Manes, with the pilot episode co-executive produced and directed by George Verschoor. The first two episodes were initially aired as a pilot run, which received positive reviews and led to a full season order. After eight additional episodes, a second season was commissioned, but it ended after six episodes were aired. The series was not cancelled due to low interest, but rather due to the high cost of producing each episode. A DVD titled *MTV's Inside Fear* was released on November 6, 2001. *Fear* was ranked #6 on *Entertainment Weekly*'s list "15 Taboo-Breaking TV Moments." The show introduced several innovations to the reality television genre, including having contestants film their own experiences without a production crew present in the haunted locations, the use of night vision cameras, and body-mounted cameras to capture close-up footage shot by the participants themselves.
