Shiratori Sakuto is a 28-year-old man with the mental capacity of a six-year-old. He works at Dream Flower Service, a flower distribution center that employs at-risk youth. One day, Sakuto and his coworker, Yanagawa Ryuichi, deliver a bouquet of roses to the apartment building where Mochizuki Haruka lives. Unaware of Sakuto's intellectual disability, Haruka is taken aback by his behavior and attempts to call the police. Haruka works at a brain physiology research center where Professor Hachisuka Daigo has been studying ways to enhance mental performance. His research has achieved success in laboratory experiments on a white mouse named Algernon. Sakuto undergoes surgery that transforms him into a genius, but as Algernon's intelligence begins to decline and he eventually dies, Sakuto realizes that his own intellect is also temporary and will eventually fade.
