French Fields

French Fields is a British situation comedy that aired 19 episodes between 5 September 1989 and 8 October 1991. It was written by John T. Chapman and Ian Davidson and produced by Thames Television for ITV. The series stars Anton Rodgers and Julia McKenzie as William and Hester Fields, a husband and wife following the series *Fresh Fields*, which ran from 7 March 1984 to 23 October 1986. In the final series of *Fresh Fields*, William accepted a position with a French company, and *French Fields* follows the couple after they relocate to Calais. The regular cast also includes their French real estate agent, Chantal, who is also their left-hand neighbour. To their right live the unpleasant and snobbish English couple, the Trendles. Hester and William also deal with Madame Remoleux, an elderly and difficult-to-understand French woman who lives in and maintains the estate, Les Hirondelles, where the characters reside. Regular appearances are also made by Monsieur Dax, a local farmer and mayor, and his daughter Marie-Christine, to whom Hester attempts to teach English. Nicholas Courtney frequently appears as the Marquis.
