Edward and Alphonse Elric's reckless disregard for alchemy's fundamental laws resulted in the loss of most of Edward's limbs and Alphonse's soul being bound to a suit of armor. Determined to restore what was lost, the brothers travel through a war-torn land in search of the Philosopher's Stone, a legendary artifact said to enable alchemy beyond normal limits. They are not the only ones seeking the Stone; the corrupt State Military also aims to control its power. The same is true of the enigmatic Homunculi and their mysterious creator. The gem's allure draws alchemists from distant lands, some of whom become so consumed by obsession that it leads to violence. As the Elrics encounter enemies and allies who shift their path, their ultimate goal remains unchanged — and their bond remains unshaken.
