Gate

Youji Itami, an off-duty Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) officer and otaku, is en route to a doujin convention in Ginza, Tokyo, when a mysterious portal resembling a large gate suddenly appears. From the gate, supernatural creatures and warriors in medieval armor emerge, attacking the city and causing widespread destruction. Youji quickly takes action to save lives while the JSDF mobilizes to counter the invasion. Three months later, Youji is assigned to lead a special reconnaissance team as part of a JSDF task force. The team is deployed to the world beyond the gate, now known as the "Special Region," to gather intelligence and attempt to establish peaceful relations with the ruling empire.
