German Crime Story: Gefesselt
Nela Langenbeck is a commissioner with the Hamburg police who not only combats crime but also challenges the misogynistic structures within the 1990s police apparatus. She and her colleagues are often dismissed and treated more like secretaries, expected to make coffee and sort files. Langenbeck investigates the case of the acid barrel murderer Raik Doormann, who must be locked up because she is the only one taking an escaped victim seriously. Doormann abducts, tortures, and kills women in his private nuclear bunker, disposing of body parts in acid barrels. His goal is to extort money to fund his dream of living in Costa Rica. Langenbeck traces the killer and uncovers brutal machinations that hold the entire country in suspense.
