Globe Trekker is an adventure tourism television series produced by Pilot Productions. The British series, inspired by the Lonely Planet travel books, began airing in 1994 and is broadcast in over 40 countries across six continents. Each episode features a host, referred to as a traveller, who journeys with a camera crew to a country—often an exotic or less-traveled destination—and explores its sights, sounds, and culture. Special episodes offer in-depth guides covering topics such as cities, beaches, diving, shopping, history, festivals, and food. The show frequently ventures beyond typical tourist hotspots to provide a more authentic view of local culture. Presenters typically engage in various aspects of regional life, such as attending a traditional wedding or visiting a mining community. They speak directly to the viewer, acting as tourists turned tour guides, while also being filmed in interactions with locals and discovering locations in spontaneous sequences. Globe Trekker occasionally includes short interviews with backpackers who offer tips on independent travel in the featured country.
