In a near-future setting, humanity begins its initial forays into the distant regions of the galaxy. During these explorations, they encounter a massive race of insectoid aliens referred to as "Space Monsters," who appear intent on the destruction of mankind as they approach Earth. In response, humanity creates giant fighting robots operated by carefully selected young individuals from around the globe. Following the aliens' discovery, Noriko Takaya, the daughter of a renowned but deceased space captain, enrolls in a training school despite her uncertain abilities as a pilot. There, she meets Kazumi Amano, her contrasting counterpart in both appearance and skill, and is unexpectedly paired with her. Together, they work to navigate the emotional and psychological challenges of war while also confronting their own personal struggles.
