Hikaru no Go
Hikaru Shindō is an ordinary 12-year-old boy who, while searching through his grandfather's belongings for items to sell, discovers an old go board. A ghostly figure emerges from the board and introduces himself as Fujiwara no Sai, a go instructor to the emperor of Japan a thousand years earlier. Sai was banished from the city after being falsely accused of cheating due to his opponent's poor sportsmanship. With no means of support or purpose left, Sai took his own life by drowning. Now trapped within the go board, he seeks to play the perfect game of go, known as the "Hand of God," and hopes to achieve it through Hikaru. Whether Hikaru will succeed in this goal—or even wish to—remains to be seen.
