Lawman

*Lawman* is an American Western television series that originally aired on ABC from 1958 to 1962. The show stars John Russell as Marshal Dan Troop and Peter Brown as Deputy Marshal Johnny McKay. Set in Laramie, Wyoming during 1879 and the 1880s, the series was produced during a period when Warner Bros. had multiple Western series on the air, including *Cheyenne* with Clint Walker, which debuted in 1955. The studio continued to expand its Western lineup in 1957 with *Maverick* starring James Garner and Jack Kelly, *Colt .45* with Wayde Preston, and *Sugarfoot* with Will Hutchins. In 1958, Warner Bros. added *Lawman* and *Bronco* with Ty Hardin to its roster. Before production began, John Russell, Peter Brown, and producer Jules Schermer agreed to uphold the quality of the series to ensure it would not be perceived as "just another western." At the start of the second season, Russell and Brown were joined by Peggie Castle as Lily Merrill, the owner of the Birdcage Saloon and a love interest for Dan Troop.
