Drama

Loxandra is a Greek mother and wife living an ordinary life within a well-to-do Greek family in Constantinoupolis during the late 1800s and early 1900s, a world that no longer exists. Historical events unfold in the background—revolutions, palace coups, massacres, and the major upheavals of World War I, during which Greeks briefly regained Constantinoupolis before ultimately losing it, along with all of Asia Minor. Through both great and minor troubles, Loxandra's simple optimism, faith in the Virgin Mary, and love for life enable her family to overcome every difficulty, whether it involves preparing a sumptuous Easter dinner or secretly giving away her savings to assist persecuted Armenians. The story portrays a time and place where neighbors were friends, sharing kitchens for cooking or cellars for shelter.
