Hazel Green leaves her husband, Alan, after discovering she is to be the unwilling subject of his new technological invention, and ends up staying with her estranged father, Herbert.

Hazel and her father Byron reunite as they work to obtain a plane for Hazel's escape, but Byron's advanced microchip draws the attention of his team, leading to a tense confrontation in which Hazel must ask her husband for a challenging favor.

A retrospective segment on a news magazine sheds light on Hazel's reasons for leaving Byron and her resolve to remain free from him.

Hazel, encouraged by her father to contribute financially, revisits past entrepreneurial efforts and reconnects with her ex-best friend Bangles, who helps her reflect on her identity prior to meeting Byron.
