*Maid Marian and her Merry Men* is a British children's sitcom created and written by Tony Robinson and directed by David Bell. It first aired in 1989 on BBC One and ran for four series, with the final episode broadcast in 1994. The show is a partially musical comic retelling of the Robin Hood legend, in which Maid Marian is portrayed as the leader of the Merry Men, and Robin is depicted as an inept former tailor. The programme was well-received by both children and adults and has often been compared to *Blackadder*, partly due to its historical setting, the presence of Tony Robinson, and its comedic style. It is considered more surreal than *Blackadder* and includes a greater number of anachronisms. Several members of the cast, including Howard Lew Lewis, Forbes Collins, Ramsay Gilderdale, and Patsy Byrne, had previously appeared in various episodes of *Blackadder* alongside Robinson. Like many British children's programmes, it incorporates a significant amount of social commentary and includes witty asides on topics such as the Royal family and public transport. Many of the plots spoof or reference other film and television adaptations of Robin Hood.
