Masamune Shogun
The broadcast TV drama produced by NHK aired from January 4 to December 13, 1987 (Showa 62). According to a questionnaire survey conducted by NHK, it was ranked as the most popular historical drama. Based on Yamaka Sosaichi's novel *Date Masamune*, it marked the first major drama on the theme of the Date clan in 17 years since *Shinnogi Remained* (1970), which depicted the Date clan during the Edo period. This drama portrays the life of the Sengoku-era warrior Date Masamune, who, through his own wisdom and talent, laid the foundation for the Sendai clan with a domain of 620,000 *koku*.
