*Meerkat Manor* is a British television series produced by Oxford Scientific Films for Animal Planet International. It premiered in September 2005 and ran for four series before being cancelled in August 2008. Combining traditional wildlife documentary footage with dramatic narration, the series followed the Whiskers, one of more than a dozen meerkat families in the Kalahari Desert studied as part of the Kalahari Meerkat Project, a long-term field study examining the ecological causes and evolutionary consequences of meerkat cooperation. The original version was narrated by Bill Nighy, with Mike Goldman providing the narration for Australian broadcasts and Sean Astin for American airings. The fourth series, subtitled *The Next Generation*, featured Stockard Channing as the narrator in the American version. The series premiered in the United Kingdom on 12 September 2005, with the first 13-episode series concluding on 24 October 2005. Following its success in the UK, *Meerkat Manor* was broadcast in Australia, Canada, and the United States. It has since been rebroadcast in over 160 countries. The fourth and final series initially aired in the United States from 6 June 2008 to 22 August 2008 and later in the United Kingdom in April 2009. In August 2009, it was announced that the programme had been cancelled.
