Memory of Encaustic Tile
Set in the Beijing hutongs, where art conservation and restoration professionals reside, the story centers on a museum conservator and a translator. Shao Xue, Zheng Sunian, and Zhang Qi are children of museum conservators who share a bond forged through experiences such as the SARS epidemic, the loss of loved ones, and the demolition of their old city. As they grow up, they begin to take different paths. Influenced by Zheng Sunian’s mother, Shao Xue refuses to sacrifice the infinite possibilities of the future for love and leaves home in search of new opportunities. Zheng Sunian carries on his mother’s legacy by becoming a conservator-restorer, finding purpose in preserving cultural artifacts. Zhang Qi, with his mathematical talents, secures the chance to study abroad. Before departing, he chooses to bury his feelings for Shao Xue.
