Koyomi Araragi, a high school senior, uncovers a disturbing secret about his classmate Hitagi Senjougahara after assisting her, a secret he is bound to keep.

Koyomi and Hitagi seek the help of Meme Oshino, a traveling expert in supernatural phenomena, to gain guidance on dealing with ghostly presences. Meme offers them insight and advice on how to perform an exorcism.

Feeling uneasy after an argument with his sister on Mother’s Day, Koyomi goes for a walk and encounters Hitagi at the park, where she unexpectedly makes him a proposition.

Koyomi Araragi and Hitagi Senjō encounter a disoriented girl named Mayoi Hachikuji in a park, who claims to be unable to find her way home. They decide to assist her, leading to a series of events that challenge their understanding of her situation.

Mayoi is unable to reach her mother's house due to a mysterious apparition. With guidance from Meme, Hitagi reveals a surprising truth to Koyomi.

Koyomi runs into Suruga Kanbaru, a basketball prodigy and Hitagi's childhood friend, while visiting Hitagi, and later faces an unexpected attack from an enigmatic entity.

The day after being attacked, Koyomi visits Suruga, who reveals something personal that leaves him confused and unable to fully understand its significance.

Koyomi brings Suruga to Oshino for assistance, but the support provided is not what Koyomi had intended.

Koyomi, acting on a request from Meme, visits an isolated temple to hang a prayer slip, where he discovers a dead snake cut into five pieces.

Koyomi Araragi meets Nadeko Sengoku, a mysterious girl he encounters at a temple, and in an effort to lift a snake curse from her, he taps into Meme's supernatural abilities.

Nadeko visits Koyomi to express gratitude, and they bond over a common hobby. Meanwhile, Tsubasa Hanekawa experiences an unexpected and severe headache.

Koyomi is excited when Hitagi confirms their first date, but on the scheduled day, he discovers that he is not the only person waiting for her.
