A lonely and gloomy fifth-grade girl becomes the target of relentless bullying and teasing from her classmates—until a new student arrives. Friendly and well-meaning, though somewhat clueless, Takada begins to help "Grim Reaper" Nishimura come out of her shell. As the elementary schoolers enjoy the simple pleasures of a summer together—visiting the pool, picking sunflowers, and watching fireworks—an unusual friendship begins to grow.
