The Village Hidden in the Leaves is home to highly trained ninja and the energetic, troublemaking 12-year-old Naruto Uzumaki. After Naruto steals an ancient scroll of sealing, he accidentally awakens a rare and powerful ability within himself.

After finally graduating from the Ninja Academy, Naruto becomes overconfident in his abilities and boasts to Konohamaru, the grandson of a Village elder, that he knows everything. Unaware of the consequences, Naruto teaches Konohamaru the "Sexy Jutsu," a technique that causes unintended and embarrassing side effects, much to the frustration of Ebisu, Konohamaru's teacher and mentor.

On the way to becoming a ninja, Naruto must team up with his classmates, the pretty Sakura and the pretty serious Sasuke.

Now that Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura have been assigned as a team, they meet with their sensei, the mysterious and distant Kakashi.

Faced with the threat of elimination, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura employ every strategy they can to survive the intense survival examination.

Naruto, frustrated with routine and unchallenging missions, approaches the Hokage and requests something more difficult. The Hokage eventually agrees and assigns them a C-rank mission: to serve as bodyguards for a bridge builder. Initially appearing straightforward, the mission takes an unexpected turn when the group is attacked—not by ordinary criminals, but by other ninja.

Naruto and his squad arrive in the Land of the Waves and learn that an evil businessman named Gato has taken over the land.

With Kakashi captured, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura must defend against Zabuza's attacks. Naruto realizes that working together with Sasuke may be the only way to save Kakashi. Will the combined effort of the two be enough to free Kakashi and defeat Zabuza?

With Kakashi now free, the battle between him and Zabuza resumes. Kakashi decides to demonstrate to Zabuza the true capabilities of the Sharingan. The question remains: can Kakashi's Sharingan overcome Zabuza? Additionally, a mysterious individual is observed watching the fight.

With Zabuza gone, things appear to be settling, allowing Tazuna to proceed with building the bridge without fear—or so it seems. Kakashi suspects something is amiss about Zabuza's death and begins training Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke in a method to better utilize their chakra. The question remains: is Zabuza truly dead?

While Naruto and Sasuke train, Sakura keeps watch over Tazuna. During a quiet dinner, Sakura notices a man's face that has been torn from a photograph. The man's name is Kaiza, and he was referred to by the country as a "hero." What events led to Inari experiencing so much pain?

Naruto faces a perilous confrontation with Haku in the forest, raising the question of Haku's true intentions. Meanwhile, Zabuza, having survived and returned, poses a renewed threat, prompting Naruto and Sasuke to complete their training. The challenge ahead remains uncertain: can Kakashi, Sasuke, and Sakura overcome the Demon of the Mist? And will Naruto reach them in time to offer assistance?

Round two with Zabuza has begun, and this time, Zabuza is accompanied by Haku in battle. Haku and Sasuke engage in combat, with Sasuke initially struggling before landing a successful kick. At the same time, Naruto is occupied with fighting some of Gato's henchmen. Back at the bridge, Haku deploys his secret jutsu, the Demonic Ice Mirrors. The jutsu presents a significant challenge for Sasuke. Meanwhile, the question remains whether Naruto will reach the bridge in time to save Tsunami and Inari.

Naruto enters the battle on the bridge, but he is caught in Haku's jutsu, putting him and Sasuke in danger. Forced to work together, the two must find a way to escape the ice mirrors without assistance. Meanwhile, Kakashi is preoccupied with defending Sakura and Tazuna from Zabuza and cannot aid them. The question remains: how will Naruto and Sasuke free themselves from the jutsu?

Haku shares the story of his past with Naruto and asks him for a final favor. The question remains: will Naruto carry out the one action he has always struggled to perform, as Haku requests?

Kakashi is about to end Zabuza's threat for good, but Haku intervenes with his own intentions. Zabuza's employer arrives and takes it upon himself to handle the situation.

Naruto becomes angry upon thinking about Haku and confronts Zabuza, but he comes to understand the harsh reality that is the fate of a ninja.

Naruto and his team return to the Village Hidden in the Leaves following their battle in the Land of Waves.

After the three ninjas depart, Sasuke becomes aware of a formidable rival in the world beyond his team. The following day, Kakashi reveals that he has recommended all of them to participate in the Chuunin Exams. Naruto and Sasuke express enthusiasm at the opportunity, while Sakura feels anxious about potentially disappointing others. Meanwhile, an individual determines that they are not yet prepared and opts to assess their own capabilities.

Rock Lee issues a one-on-one challenge to Sasuke. Naruto becomes angry and confronts Lee, but is quickly defeated in a single move. Sasuke acknowledges the challenge and accepts it with enthusiasm. The question remains whether Sasuke will be as easily overpowered by this unknown ninja. While Sasuke's Sharingan appears to be his greatest asset, the situation becomes uncertain when even that ability proves ineffective.

As the rookies prepare for the Chuunin Exam, their reunion is anything but cheerful, with tensions high among the many rivals present. To better understand what they will face, Naruto's team seeks assistance from the ninja Kabuto. Whether the group will be able to endure the challenges of the exam remains to be seen.

The first stage of the Chuunin Exam is a written test. Ibiki Morino presents a set of strict rules, and Naruto Uzumaki initially fails to grasp the true purpose of the assessment. As the exam progresses, Naruto must determine the actual objective before time expires. The nature and significance of the tenth question remain a central mystery.

Ibiki imposes what appears to be a harsh and unreasonable rule for the most challenging segment of the first exam.

Konohamaru, the grandson of the Third Hokage of the Leaf Village, appears at the site of the Chunin Exam. He is accompanied by Moegi and Udon, as they cover the event for the Ninja Academy's school newspaper. Konohamaru regards Naruto as an older brother and, through interviews with various characters, provides recaps of their recent adventures.

The second exam is about to begin, and every ninja must sign a form so that their team can receive either the Heaven or Earth Scroll. The objective is to obtain one of each scroll and reach the tower within five days.

Sasuke devises a password to distinguish allies from enemies in an effort to prevent further complications, but the effectiveness of this method remains uncertain. At the same time, Naruto faces a formidable challenge in the form of a giant snake, raising questions about his ability to manage the situation alone. The fates of Sasuke, Sakura, and their ability to endure the crisis also remain in doubt.

As Sasuke prepares to surrender the scroll to the enemy, Naruto intervenes, confronting him and accusing him of being insincere. Naruto then shifts his focus to the Grass Ninja. The ensuing battle is fierce, and as the Grass Ninja gains the advantage, the question remains: will Sasuke find the strength to continue fighting?

Sasuke remains trapped in his trance, unresponsive even to Sakura's urgent pleas. At the same time, Anko investigates the identity of the impostor grass ninja. As the team begins to gain the upper hand, a lingering question arises: have the ninja truly been defeated, or is there more to them than initially appears?

Sakura is the only one who did not sustain injuries in the previous battle, so she is tasked with watching over and protecting her teammates. Unbeknownst to her, enemies are observing them from the trees. They launch an attack, but just as it begins, a friend arrives to assist. Whether this aid will be sufficient remains to be seen.

Lee, in his weakened condition, struggles to overcome Dosu. Sakura comes to the realization that everyone has been shielding her up to this point and understands that now is the time for her to protect them. Can Sakura achieve what even Lee could not?

With Sakura defeated and facing certain death, additional reinforcements enter the battle. However, they detect an even greater level of power, and it is not coming from the Sound trio. Meanwhile, Sasuke awakens surrounded by an ominous dark aura, with a mysterious seal spreading across his body. He has but one goal: to make his enemies pay.

Kiba, Shino, and Hinata decide to try and eliminate their opponents by obtaining more scrolls. They arrive at a battlefield where three Rain ninjas are fighting Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari. They stay hidden and observe the battle, believing one of the Rain ninjas to be a dangerous opponent. After witnessing Gaara's impressive abilities, they realize who the real threat is and hope they can escape with their lives.

Naruto and his team take a much-needed rest to heal their wounds following their battle against the Sound ninja. However, four days have already passed since the start of the exam, leaving only one day remaining before the deadline.

Naruto's team joins Kabuto on their journey to the tower, but along the way, they are trapped by the genjutsu—illusion technique—of the Hidden Rain Village's genin, Oboro's team.

The exam has concluded, but the question remains—did the participants truly succeed? An old friend arrives to provide clarification and express his concern. At the same time, Anko informs the ANBU about Orochimaru, a S-Class criminal whose actions even they are unable to prevent. Later, the Third Hokage addresses everyone, revealing the true meaning behind the third exam.

With many participants still remaining, the groups are informed that they will face off against each other in preliminary matches. Kabuto exits the area, and Sasuke is then told that he must compete. It is known that Sasuke has been given the cursed seal, and if it takes control of him, the others will intervene to stop him. The question remains: can Sasuke prevent the seal from taking over once again and still emerge victorious?

The third exam begins with preliminary one-on-one combat matches. The first of these matches is between Sasuke and Yoroi, a subordinate of Orochimaru.

As Shino and Zaku conclude their battle, Kakashi tends to Sasuke's cursed seal. However, a sinister figure arrives to disrupt the situation, raising the question of whether Kakashi will be able to protect Sasuke from this formidable opponent.

Kankuro faces off against Kabuto's teammate, Misumi, in a brief but intense battle that showcases the strength of the Sand ninja. The true highlight of the match, however, comes when Sakura and Ino are placed against each other in a direct confrontation.

Sakura and Ino prepare to settle their rivalry once and for all. However, when Sakura becomes the victim of Ino's Mind-Body Switch Jutsu, she is forced to give up the match.

Temari of the Sand Village faces off against Tenten from the Leaf Village in a battle. After their match, it is Shikamaru's turn, but he must contend with an opponent who has already witnessed his moves once before.

The match between Kiba and Naruto begins, with Kiba quickly demonstrating the advantage in the fight. Most still perceive Naruto as the underperforming ninja he has always been, with the exception of Hinata, Kakashi, and Sakura. This is now Naruto's moment to prove himself, and for the first time, everyone will be watching him.

The battle between Naruto and Kiba reaches its conclusion, with both combatants giving their all. After being deceived by Naruto, Kiba is no longer able to rely on Akamaru's assistance. Deciding that the moment has come to unleash his new jutsu, Naruto is interrupted by Kiba, who refuses to let him prepare it.

Kiba warns Hinata that only a few fighters remain and urges her to give up immediately if she faces Gaara, as it could cost her life. He also cautions her to quit if matched against Neji, due to Neji's existing issues with her. At that moment, the board announces the next match: Hinata versus Neji. The question remains how far Hinata is willing to go to prove herself.

Hinata refuses to give up easily, especially with Naruto watching her. The question remains whether Hinata will be willing to sacrifice her own life to prove herself, or if the match will be halted before Neji can land a fatal strike.

The second-to-last match finally arrives. Rock Lee must face down the mysterious and dangerous Gaara, a ninja who is said to have never been truly injured in a fight before.

As the battle between Lee and Gaara progresses, Gai recalls the intense training Lee once endured and acknowledges that Lee possesses virtually no ninjutsu or genjutsu abilities. Lee, like Naruto, is also a dropout. To defeat Gaara, Lee must resort to the move that Gai had forbidden him from using.

The match between Gaara and Lee reaches its climax as Lee executes his ultimate technique. However, it remains uncertain whether this move will be sufficient to overcome Gaara. Even if Lee manages to survive the encounter, he is soon confronted with even more surprising developments.

As Chouji confronts Dosu, Orochimaru instructs Kabuto to kidnap Sasuke, adding that if Kabuto wishes to prevent him, he must kill Sasuke. When Kabuto moves toward Sasuke, he hesitates, uncertain of his next action. However, his disguise is quickly uncovered when Kakashi arrives at the scene. The question remains: will Kakashi be able to rescue Sasuke from Kabuto's grasp?

Naruto expresses a desire for Kakashi to train him, but Kakashi has different intentions. Ebisu appears to a disappointed Naruto and offers him a deal: if Naruto can escape from Ebisu's grasp, Kakashi will agree to train him. Accepting the challenge, Naruto attempts to outwit Ebisu, raising the question of whether he can succeed.
