Ned Bigby, an ordinary student at James K. Polk Middle School, teams up with his best friends Moze and Cookie to navigate the challenges of middle school life. Ned, who is neither particularly cool nor endowed with superpowers, is instead characterized by his wit, good grooming, upbeat attitude, and self-awareness. He frequently breaks the fourth wall to offer advice on handling common junior high obstacles. With support from his friends, Ned tackles a variety of issues, including bullying, crushes, eccentric teachers, pop quizzes, school elections, and detentions. He maintains a perspective that the seventh grade, while difficult, is ultimately manageable, and that the importance of friendship remains central.
