At the turn of the century, the Angels returned to Earth with the intent to destroy humanity in an apocalyptic assault. In the aftermath, the surviving human population retreated underground, awaiting the day the Angels would return to complete their mission. Fifteen years later, that day arrives—but this time, humanity is prepared to resist, employing advanced bio-mechanical weapons known as the Evangelions. Shinji, Rei, Asuka, and the other members of the enigmatic organization Nerv engage in a desperate battle to prevent the total destruction of Earth.
