In 1993, 14-year-old Alex Ryabinin leads a typical teenage life, seeking adventure, trying to avoid hooligans, resisting learning music, and unsure how to interact with girls or which adults to emulate. On one side, he has an honest but financially struggling family, with a mother who works as a saleswoman and a father who is a docent; on the other, the dangerous influence of his Afghan veteran uncle, Alik. There is also Zhenya, a girl whose encounter sets off a chain of irreversible events that will permanently alter Alex's life. While fleeing from hooligans, Alex steals a car belonging to a local criminal figure, and in an instant, everything changes. Will he be able to manage the ensuing problems, now at the center of events? Can he save his family and finally discover his true self? One thing is certain—life will never be the same again, neither for Alex nor for Russia as a whole.
