Pending Train
Passengers on a commuter train receive earthquake alerts on their cellphones just before the ground begins to shake violently. Sparks fly from power lines, cars are thrown off balance, and the lights go out. When passengers on Train 5 awaken, they discover they are no longer in a tunnel, and dense, overgrown vegetation is visible through the windows. They open the doors and find that the train tracks abruptly end both ahead and behind the car. Reactions to the sudden loss of modern civilization range from confusion and alarm to indifference. The passengers are left to wonder where and when they are, and whether they can survive in the wilderness.
