Perfect Commando

Van Hamilton’s first trip to his mother’s homeland, Finland, goes awry as soon as he steps off the plane. The 23-year-old from California, who was planning a luxury holiday with his girlfriend Rachel, is instead arrested and sent to a remote army barracks for commando training. Van quickly realizes this is no mistake: he has been lured into a trap set by his parents, who hope that military service in a foreign country will transform their well-meaning but spoiled son into a responsible adult. Meanwhile, Rachel is left to navigate Helsinki without money or a return ticket. She befriends Van’s cousin and his underground rap group, hoping that immersing herself in the culture of what she calls “Nordic white trash” will advance her sociology studies.
