Set in 1932 Los Angeles, the series centers on the origin story of the renowned defense lawyer Perry Mason. Struggling financially as a low-rent private investigator, Mason is tormented by his wartime experiences in France and dealing with the aftermath of a failed marriage. While Los Angeles experiences growth amid the rest of the country's recovery from the Great Depression, a botched kidnapping leads Mason to uncover the truth behind the crime, revealing the deep divisions within the city.
