Quark is an American science fiction situation comedy starring Richard Benjamin, which aired on NBC. The pilot episode premiered on May 7, 1977, and the series debuted as a mid-season replacement in February 1978. The show was cancelled in April 1978. Quark was created by Buck Henry, who also co-created the spy spoof Get Smart. The series was set aboard the United Galaxy Sanitation Patrol Cruiser, an interstellar garbage scow based at United Galaxies Space Station Perma One in the year 2226. The main character, Adam Quark, is tasked with cleaning up space debris by collecting "space baggies" alongside his unconventional crew. During its brief run, Quark satirized various science fiction works, including Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Flash Gordon. Three episodes were direct parodies of Star Trek episodes. The series received one Emmy Award nomination, for costume designer Grady Hunt's work on the episode "All the Emperor's Quasi-Norms, Part 2." The complete series was released on DVD on October 14, 2008.
